A great week for anyone intrigued by the universe and human efforts to uncover its secrets. With professional astronomer Roger Noble who gives brilliantly illustrated talks and brings a powerful telescope for us all to try some practical astronomy.

This year’s talks, as well as giving a general understanding of the cosmos, focus on the Red Planet. What is so interesting about Mars? We now have active rovers (and defunct ones) on its surface and a helicopter that can hover above. There are multiple observation satellites in orbit and grand plans to take humans there.

At night we should get decent views of Saturn and Jupiter as well as ‘shooting stars’ in the year’s best meteor shower. Recommended for adults and older children.
