Death, Grief and Life

A retreat with Nicky Temple

    Thursday 2nd April 2026  to Monday 6th April 2026

Space is available on this event!

    Nicky Temple

This Eastertime you are invited to share in an exploration that touches us all most deeply. We will be in the safe hands of Nicky Temple, a trusted Othona retreat leader. She writes:

There is one certainty in life for us all and that is the reality that we will all die, but sadly, in western culture we have largely relegated death to something that happens to other people and not us. When it does happen, we are quick to shut it away into closed rooms and surround it with hushed voices. We don’t have helpful frameworks in which to connect more deeply with the thing that without doubt will happen to every single one of us.

Along with death comes grief and it shows up in our lives for all sorts of reasons, in all manner of ways. We can lack the ability to walk through it in healthy ways giving voice to our sorrow and pain. Culture expects us to “get over” our losses and in very short time frames.

This retreat offers a space in which to explore death more deeply. To notice our fears connected to our own deaths and the deaths of those we love. We will have the opportunity to tell our grief stories in safe space and in community as we welcome these two neglected subjects.

We will then wonder about how letting death and grief be with us more intentionally helps us truly live. We will be curious about how joy and sorrow interweave and what it means to be fully alive and present to the life that we’re living right now.

Through poetry, movement, music, ritual, lectio-divina, guided meditation and creativity all within safe community, we will allow ourselves to be taken on a journey with Divine Love interweaving it all and offering her deep nourishment and love.

Although this retreat takes place over Easter we will not be using the Easter story as our framework. It will, however, be referenced and welcomed to offer its wisdom.
