Spiritual teachers speak of a "second half of life". This is a matter of quality, not of years. It need not wait until we achieve a particular age; whereas for some of us it may only arrive late in the day. Whatever our age, moving into this second half invites us to live more fully from freedom and wider dimensions of spirituality. It creates greater space for authenticity and living from our true selves.
During earlier years it's normal - and actually necessary - for us to be establishing our ego and building the outer structures of our lives: enthusiasms, career and family. We are our own project, you might say.
The second half of life offers the possibility of great hope, fulfilment, meaning, freedom, grace and giving ourselves in service to the world in ways never yet encountered. Here is the possibility to be awakened to the mystery of things that we simply couldn’t see when we were younger.
