A Place to be Real Together

>> Advent Dec 2017

Let’s step out of the pre-Christmas build-up, and focus on a more spiritual preparation. In the darkness of winter, what is it that we wait and long for? (Hint: Not items sold by Amazon.) What and where is our hope?

Nickie Fidgin and Nigel Thomas bring us their hand-painted labyrinth to cover the chapel floor. We’ll have the chance to walk it with differing intentions during the weekend, sometimes by candlelight. And we'll create ourselves an Advent Spiral, an enchanting symbol of the turning of the year. We can enter deeply into the questions posed for each of us by this special season.

Churches since ancient times have echoed with great invocations at Advent:

O Root of Jesse - what grounds us, nourishes us, gives us strength and stability?

O Key of David - what doors have opened or closed for us this year, what do we need to be set free from?

O Morning Star - what new dawn are we hoping for?

O Wisdom - where in our lives do we most feel in need of divine wisdom?

On top of all this there’ll be glorious Advent music and the fun of making traditional gingerbread goodies. But no shopping!! Doesn’t that sound good?

Nickie is a skilled facilitator of labyrinth experiences who has brought them to contexts as varied as a primary school and Salisbury Cathedral. She is also a singing teacher, so we can look forward to making music together as an extra delight.

Her husband Nigel, who is a chaplain to immigration detainees and a support worker at a ‘care farm’, also brings his storytelling skills.
