Sunday 2nd November 2025
Space is available on this event!
What will we sing?
We will learn two well-known songs, arranged in four-part harmony and sung a cappella. Previous workshops have included the songs of John Martyn, the Beatles, Irving Berlin, Judy Garland, James Taylor, and Karine Polwart.
Alongside these, we’ll sing some shorter songs and rounds, easy-to-learn pieces which will reflect the season.
Songs are taught by ear with lyrics sheets provided for longer pieces. Scores are sometimes available for those who prefer them, but reading music is not required. The only requirement is a willingness to jump in and have a go. If you’ve never learnt by ear before, don’t worry - it’s mostly listening and repeating until, suddenly, you find yourself singing in harmony!

Othona
Between the singing sessions, there will be time to enjoy the stillness of the Othona grounds in late autumn. Be with the flora and fauna and marvel at the ocean views.
The food, cooked by Suus’ sister, Esther, will add to the nourishment of the music. Bringing together local ingredients, it will be a real autumnal treat, giving us warmth at this time of year.

Facilitator
Susannah (“Suus”) Gooch’s workshops are about the connection, presence and joy that arise through shared song. She brings expert musicality and a light energy to create sessions that will have you humming all the way home, invigorated by feet-tapping rhythms and beautiful harmonies.
Suus is a choir leader based near Bristol. As a former director of a choir at the University of Gloucestershire and co-director of the Gasworks Choir in Bristol, Suus is also an accomplished song arranger, ceilidh leader and violinist. She is a Natural Voice practitioner, meaning her workshops are open to all regardless of musical background or experience. Nervous singers are especially welcome.
