Othona is a great place for families to meet and interact. A week like this, with light-touch facilitation by family members who already know Othona, gives us all maximum flexibility. What activities shall we try? What are the skills and interests we bring?
Who’d like to design the pizzas, or build the bonfire, or organise the talent evening? Or maybe we’ll do something entirely different?! Outings, drama, dancing, den building, games tournaments… there are so many possibilities.
Our key families this week are Richard and Rachel with their sons Sam and Matthew, and Clare with her daughters Lucia and Naomi – the children are aged between 13 and 8. The resident core community members are here to help, but not to run everything!
Our new studio building isn't under construction yet. So we still have access to the old art and craft room which many of us know and love. And of course Othona has acres of unspoilt grounds and the beach just 15 minutes walk away.
The framework for all this creativity is the Othona Community day, with its anchor points of lovingly prepared meals, simple shared jobs where everyone can contribute and quiet reflective times in chapel.
Othona is “a place to be real together” where we can keep the virtual world of phones and internet to a minimum and give ourselves more space for genuine meeting and understanding.
