A Place to be Real Together

Quiet Week

A gentle time of relaxation and retreat led by Liz Howlett & Jenny Warbrick

Wednesday 22 - Monday 27 February 2023

This event is full but you can join the waiting list.

This quiet week takes place in the beautiful coastal setting and welcoming community of Othona West Dorset. This may be your first retreat, or you might bring much experience - all are welcome. This isn't a silent retreat, but there will be agreed times and places of silence each day.

We will gather in the chapel every morning and evening. We will draw on the wisdom, music, prayer and poetry of mystics, both ancient and modern as we reflect on life as a journey.

Our facilitators, Jenny and Liz will offer optional activities related to this theme, including creating our own labyrinth, beach walks, and some creative projects.

Michael Leunig writes simple but profound prayers and one of them begins with these sentences: 'Dear God, We give thanks for places of simplicity and peace.  Let us find such a place within ourselves.  We give thanks for places of refuge and beauty.  Let us find such a place within ourselves.'  We may not travel many miles on this retreat, but we invite you to journey with us to the heart of things.

The facilitators will be Liz Howlett and Jenny Warbrick, who led the equivalent week in 2022. Liz has been a regular visitor to Othona with her sons over many years and now lives and works as part of the resident core team. She is also an ordained minister in the Church of England and is a part-time member of the local Bride Valley churches ministry team.

Jenny lives in Birmingham, was brought up in the URC and now attends her local Anglican church. She is an experienced teacher, lecturer, writer and editor and has recently discovered Othona as a place of spiritual refreshment.
