The Milky Way as photographed by Roger Noble on a previous Othona Astronomy Week
A great week for anyone intrigued by the universe and human efforts to uncover its secrets. With professional astronomer Roger Noble who gives brilliantly illustrated talks and brings a powerful telescope for us all to try some practical astronomy.
The dates for this week mean the start of it coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, the best annual display of shooting stars. So they should be a highlight, as long as we get clear skies, of our evening observations.
Roger's talks focus on general aspects of the universe as well as some of the latest findings in astronomy and space exploration.
This year we'll learn more about the instruments astronomers use. The James Webb Space Telescope is making news with its amazing exploration of the early universe.
Recommended for adults and older children.
The astronomy doesn't fill the whole day by any means, so there's time for other family activities. and all within the caring spiritual ethos of the Othona Community.
