Saturday 17th to Friday 23rd August 2024
Space is available on this event! :-D
Singer/pianist, song writer, educator and ex-teacher to Sam Smith, Joanna Eden has run music weeks for families at Othona for over 10 years! She says:
"My philosophy is to get everyone involved whatever their age, experience or level of skill. The only essential criterion is a love of music! Everyone can participate as much or as little as they please. There is no requirement to read music or to perform in front of others, although there are many opportunities to do just that if you wish to.
"I have a big passion for songwriting for fun, healing and self-discovery. There’s so much joy in making music together and I love to be the glue that makes that happen and sometimes I’m the power surge to give everyone the confidence to enjoy their music. I believe that’s a human right!
"Please bring an instrument if you have one (not essential). Bring your complementary skills too! Our attendees often end up running a session in their skill eg. salsa dancing, djembe drumming (we have hand drums), circle dancing, harmony singing, campfire songs."
Joanna is joined by her partner, Uruguayan bass player, guitarist and composer Andrés Lafone who specialises in Latin American rhythms.
Parents of children under 10 are asked to accompany their child for all sessions they attend.
Here's a video of one of Joanna's songs from last year's event. In the informal setting you can hear (but not see) other Othona participants joining in.
